March 4, 2017 the congregation of Berthoud United Methodist Church was challenged by a very generous donor family to raise $50,000 which would in turn be matched by funds from this family. While seeming a very big task, the congregation took it on. Every time a $5000 landmark was achieved, a red balloon was presented to the congregation at that Sunday service, as well as an adjustment on a thermometer so the congregation could watch their progress. On December 17, approximately nine months from starting this challenge, the $50,000 goal was achieved! A celebration was in order and occurred during that service. Ten balloons to indicate the $50, 000 were handed out, as well as ten more to symbolize the matching funds. But as a most generous surprise, after the goal plus about $12,000 more was achieved, the donor family generously added $50,000 more which does not need to be matched. This added 10 more balloons. To celebrate, these balloons were released in the church and allowed to rise to the ceiling to commemorate “rise to the challenge.” The church will have, at minimum, $150,000 to offset the mortgage owed when it is time to refinance in July of 2018. Thank you for all of your efforts dear congregation and thank you so much to our generous donor family. What a wonderful way to enter 2018!
